Pool Rules for Safety and Fun
Posted By Susan Elmorabit on June 13, 2019
Summer is upon us and pool season is in full swing! We hope you use the pool often to refresh, relax and enjoy connecting with family, neighbors and friends. This is your pool (collectively) and for everyone’s pleasure and health, we want to remind you of some of the most overlooked pool rules – along with a few reasons for why they are in place. The full rules are posted at the pool and can be found in the “Documents” section within the Association Rules on this website.
Rule #1: Swimming pool and spa hours are 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. June thru September. One reason for this is the quiet enjoyment of the neighbors adjacent to the pool area. Keep in mind that the pool area is being monitored even after hours. Save yourself the embarrassment of being asked to leave by respecting the hours.
Rule #4: Appropriate swimming attire is required at all times.
Why? Cotton and some other materials can hold detergents, germs, and bacteria in them, which can be released into the water. This can cause swimmers to get sick and even affect the water chemistry and clarity. Cotton also tends to absorb a lot of water and pool chemicals, requiring the pool to use more disinfectant.
Rule #5: All residents under 14 years old must be accompanied by a responsible person at least 18 years of age capable of using the life preserver and life hook in case of an emergency.
Hopefully, this rule needs no explanation. As far as the ages stated in the rule, it would tough to come up with a better metric….and it gives your 13 year old something to look forward to.
Rule #10: Alcoholic beverages are prohibited within the swimming pool and spa areas.
Party hearty…..at home. Accidents and unbecoming behavior at the pool have been linked to the use of alcohol.
Rule #13: Pool and spa area is to be entered through the gates only.
Note – “through” the gates – not by climbing over the gates. Avoid accidents and expensive repairs to association property.
Rule #14: Each household is entitled to bring no more than five (5) guests into the pool area at any time. Residents must stay with guest while they are at the pool area….
Have you seen how crowded the pool can get? Let’s be fair to all our neighbors.
Rule #16: Wheeled apparatus or vehicles, including, without limitation, skateboards, rollerblades, rollerskates or bicycles are not allowed in the swimming pool or spa areas at any time.
I think people just don’t know about this rule, as I have seen several parents bring their kids to the pool with wheeled contraptions. This is a safety concern and even if they don’t ride them in the pool area, if others see wheels in the pool area, they will think it’s ok. Please don’t bring them inside the fence.
Rule #17: No glass, breakable containers, or sharp objects are permitted.
Are you still reading this post? Well then, I’m probably preaching to the choir at this point but you’d be surprised how often this rule is broken to the potential peril of everyone whose tootsies could later fall victim to shards of glass. Please don’t…..
Rule #20: Except for service or assistance animals, pets are prohibited in the swimming pool or spa area.
Yes, we love your pet….but honestly – it is so hard to teach them pool rules and who knows what little critters they might bring with them.
Thank you for reading and have a safe and fun summer!
